Project part #1: Project proposal

Introduction
Our group will have to design a particular interactive application and system that interest people as user. We want to develop and update a ‘food ordering’ system named “iFood”  . Basiclly, food ordering system is one of the latest servicers most fast food restaurants in the western world. With this method, food is ordered online and delivered to the customer at home or in the restaurant.
Generally , our project themes are more to wellness. We strive customers to choose good and healthy food  so that the customers will be aware of their nutrition intake. Besides we use online delivering food system , we also allow the customers use the easier way to pay foods instead of using cash on delivery.

Problem Statements
The current food ordering system in most of the restaurants is waiting a waiter to serve and waiter need to take down order using pen and paper, then deliver it to the kitchen. Customers also need to que at the counter to pay or order foods. This method will take a lot of time to finish an order. While for delivering system, people cannot see how the food being prepared while they are at home.

Figure 1

The figure 1 had shown that there are many customers wait for the waiter to serve them. The main problem is the waiters in this restaurant are not enough to handle too many customers. Some customers may have to wait for a long time to finish their order. The time taken for the waiter to take order and deliver to the kitchen will also slow down the flow of ordering. The common problem happen in most of the restaurants is to get customers satisfaction about the services.

Figure 2
Figure 2 shown the waiter is taking order manually with pen and paper. Since waiter is a human, there might be a chance for the waiter to take a wrong order. This problem will occur if there is a lot of foods order at the same time or some customers speak at the same time. The waiter might listen wrongly. Besides, some customers always change their order, the waiter might confuse with it. Taking wrong order will make the customers feel uncomfortable and frustrating with the service given.

Figure 3
Figure 3 illustrated the chefs are busy preparing and making ordered foods in the kitchen.Based on user experience, most of the restaurants do not have the open kitchen, the customers cannot see how the chefs prepare their foods. Some customers may worry about the environment of kitchen and the chefs’ personal hygiene. They could think are the foods safe to eat. Moreover, some foods may take a long time to prepare and make, customers may feel bored when waiting their foods. Same happened to the customer who ordered foods to be delivered at their own place , they do not know how their food being prepared and the condition of the foods until they get it.

Figure 4
The figure above had shown the menu in most the restaurants. Every restaurant has their own kind of food and they list it down on a menu. The problem about the current menu is sometimes there are no pictures or too few pictures about the food. Some customers might the pictures on menu are not real enough to show or view the food. Customers will ask waiter about the food, but not all waiter will fully understand and know how to describe the food. While customer who use online delivering system cannot ask more details about the food. Besides, customers do not know calories of each kind of food. The current menu do not list down the nutrition facts of food. This process will give less effectiveness for customers to use. So, new interface of application can make more usability goals achieved.

Proposed solution
What we propose is a food ordering system originally designed for use in college cafeterias , restaurants etc. that not only applicable for online delivering food. We also strive to give people the opportunity to eat and live healthier besides stronger the relationship between families , employees and restaurant managements itself. The main advantage of this system is that it greatly simplies the ordering process for both the customer and the restaurant itself.Within this application, all items in the order are displayed, along with their corresponding options and details, in a concise and easy to read manner. This allows the restaurant employees to quickly go through the orders as they are placed and produce the necessary items with minimal delay and confusion. The greatest advantage of this system is its flexibility.

General description of proposed solution towards problems:
As customer personally, we do not like waiting for long time in the store or to have to call store to place an order especially during the peak lunch or dinner hours. In addition the restaurant itself cannot handle to many customers at the same time. This ’iFood’ will help customers and management to reduce the workload in the present system and the time wasted in data processing which customers can browse and use this application to orders with just few clicks. So, the restaurant employees can quickly go through the orders as they are received and process all orders efficiently and effectively with minimal delays and confusion.

Next, as we know , waiter should be able to take a wrong order of the customers. This will give bad feedback on the restaurant. So, iFood application system will keep accurate record on purchased order and delivery as the entire process of taking order is automated. This system will be less probable to make mistake, since it’s a machine.

iFood application system will allow customers to see how the food being prepared. So they would not feel doubtful to eat the food. This also can motivate the employee to take care of their hygienity because customers would be able to rate them as employees. Besides that, customers whose bring along their children would not be worry for their children behaviours. This can help parents to attract them to watch joyful movies and play games about foods in this application as children can gain more knowledge about their healthy. The children also can be more exciting.

This system presents an interactive and up-to-date menu with all available options in an easy to use manner. Customers can choose one or more items to place an order which will land in the cart. Customer also can view all the order details in the cart before pay and buy. They also can calculate or view the calories of the food as customers are really take care of their healthy.

In addition , nowadays people are into technologies. Mostly , people use smartphone to perform their task daily. iFood application system allow the customers to pay the foods by using near-field communication device. This will avoid long queues at the counter due to the speed of execution and number of optimum screens to accommodate the maximum throughput. Customer at home also can pay easily by using the paywave , so they cannot be worry to find cash at fixed amount to pay the foods.

Objective
This study lays out a design idea for a new system to be developed and brought to the market for maximum use and to create an avenue through the web where users can log on to our server and make a selection of whatever goods or food they like and subsequently pay via the internet. The following are the objectives this would bring:

1. The products and services offered would provide the customers with all the different categories of available products that they can choose and select from.
2. The products offered would provide the customers the details of foods available that good for their healthy
3. This will provide a user friendly environment between the customer and employee thus increasing the efficiency of the food ordering system.
4. It will also help for easy retrieval of orders made by the customers.

5. This be able to show the customers how the food being prepared.

6. To allow the customer to make order, view order and make changes before submitting their order and allow them make payment through prepayment card or credit card or debit card.
7. To provide interface that allows promotion and menu.
8. To prevent interface that shows customers’ orders detail to front-end and kitchen staffs for delivering customers’ orders
9. A tool that allows the management to modify the food information such as price, add a new menu and many others as well as tools for managing user, system menu and promotion records.

Scope
In this project, enable customers order for food and get it delivered accordingly and also to reduce the long queues of customers at the counter ordering for food and to reduce the work lord on the employees.
The following things are among other things that are discussed and what the software would handle:
1.      Type of food available.
2.      The details about the food.
3.      Slot how the food being prepared
4.      Rate the employee
5.      Joyful movies and games about food for children
6.      Pay food via internet.

Measureable Objective
Get customer feedback on using the application ,so we can improve performance where we can set up a system for customer that includes a comment sheet to give rate and comments about the application as customer responses. We can also set up questionnaires based on our objectives so that we can conclude . are our objectives relevant and can be achieved?.

Target user
                          Manager
-          They can manage and records food details accurately.
-          They can manage customers effectively
 Customers
-          They can view nutrition facts of foods.
-           They be able to pay via the internet.
 Employees
-          Less their pressure when having many customers
-          Can be more motivate while customers can rate them.
